Utile dulci
Omne tulit punctum qui miscuit utile dulci
Lectorem delectando pariterque monendo
Horace Ars Poetica 343
The quotation from Horace translates: A writer has done the complete task when he blends substance
with style, equally instructing and delighting the reader. The motto, utile dulci, translates literally, the
useful with the sweet. Latin being a cryptic language and this being a poem it can be translated more
freely in a number of ways substance with style, knowledge with a flourish, content with elegance
and so on. These, of course, represent the aspirations of Branxton Press and not a claim to its
achievements.
